Doug Winn is a teacher and running coach in Portland, Oregon. The advice in his book HappyFast Running is founded on a lifetime of running (to purchase a copy, click here). He is an avid student of the art of coaching and keeps current with the latest sports science research. He pairs an interest in proven results with his unorthodox methods based on mindfulness and joy. Here is what he has accomplished:
Set three age-group American records in 2010 at age 60: 3K Outdoor Track, 20K Road Race, and 25K Road Race. Also in 2010 he won the World Indoor 3K Championship in addition to the USATF Masters Championships in the Half Marathon, 5K, 20K and 25K road races, 12K Trail, 5K Cross Country, and 5K and 10K Outdoor Track. That same year as a 60 year old, he ran a half marathon in 1:17:00 and a marathon in 2:45 on USATF certified courses. In 2010 he was selected the USATF Masters “Long Distance Male Runner of the Year.” He won Oregon High School XC Coach of the Year honors in 2012. Since 2010 he has won several age-group USATF National Championships in road racing and cross country.
He’s looking forward to 2020 when he will set his sights on winning a few more USATF National Championships at age 70. Mainly, though, he’s glad that he stumbled upon the secret to sustainable running with less injury and more satisfaction: HappyFast running.
