The Seattle Children’s Kids Marathon is structured to allow children—kindergarten through eighth grade—to complete a full 26.2 mile marathon at a rate that is fun and safe for their growing bodies “one mile at a time.” It also encourages them to read 13 books and perform 13 do rights (good deeds).
ON RACE DAY
Kids run the last 1.2 miles of their marathon together, starting at 5th and Harrison at Seattle Center, next to the Experience Music Project. They run around the Seattle Center, past the Space Needle and down Mercer Street, finishing their marathon in Memorial Stadium.
LEADING UP TO RACE DAY
Kids run or walk the first 25 miles of their marathon one mile (or half mile) at a time on a safe, secure route designated by parents, coaches or teachers. The program should take 6-8 weeks to complete depending on the fitness level of the child. A less-active child may need to start earlier to complete the program. As they are completing their miles, kids also complete their reading and do-rights (good deeds).
